North Mara + Upgrade

Contract Power International were contracted by Ausenco Engineering to design construct and install a 12 MW high speed station at the North Mara site in Tanzania Africa

This was completed in 2002

CPI were invited back to North Mara to add 6 more 1250 KVA generators, this involved the lengthening of the engine hall and adding control room sections to the existing control room to house additional HV equipment.

This site now operates an 18 megawatt power station. In December of 2004 CPI service contract came to a close.

CPI received recognition of the achievement from Placer Dome, not only for the work carried out but also in the way the work was conducted. Only two power outages were recorded in the two and a half years CPI were operating it, and in both instances the outages were directly attributed to lightning strikes.
